Northeast Airlines
Convair 880 N8483H
(c/n 23)
Northeast flew its
first pure jet schedule on 15 December 1960 with one of the six Convair
880s
it had leased from the Hughes Tool
Company. They were used to compete with the Boeing 707s
and Douglas DC-8s being used by other carriers within NEA
territory. By the mid 1960s, NEA
ran into
the first of its serious financial problems (which would eventually
result in its being taken
over by Delta)
and the Convairs were returned to Hughes Tool (or TWA, if you wish) in
1963.
. However, the airline did lease another four
in later years finally releasing them in 1968.
